Dr Tony Nicholson is a Principal Lecturer in History at the University of Teesside, where he specialises in modern British social and cultural history, with a particular focus on local and family history. Tony was inspired to develop NENA after seeing Thomson-Gale’s Times Digital Archive, an online version of the Times newspaper (1785-1985), which appeared in 2003. In 2004, a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship Award gave Tony the core funding (£50, 000) to turn his idea of a localised online newspaper archive into reality. Tony is the Project Director of NENA.
Owen Mulpetre, BA (Hons) is a post graduate student of the University of Teesside, where he is currently researching the life and career of Victorian journalist and editor, W.T. Stead. Since 2001, Owen has run the W.T. Stead Resource Site, the most comprehensive online repository of material on W.T. Stead. Owen is responsible for the design and maintenance of the NENA website and for liaising between the project team and volunteers.
